Description: This conference will outline the Proposed Rule for the 2010 IPPS and discuss the financial and operational impact on hospitals. The speakers will share their perspective on what cardiovascular service lines can expect for 2010, along with proven strategies and solutions for remaining profitable. Through case studies and reimbursement calculations (2009 current and 2010 predicted), attendees will learn how to increase revenue, grow patient volumes, gain operational efficiencies, and decrease costs amid declining reimbursement and increasing costs for technology, manpower, and other resources. Though the finalized reimbursement rates will not be released until later in 2009, more changes could be ahead in order to move hospitals closer to the true cost-based system of reimbursement. Any change will have an impact on hospital profit margins and cardiovascular program bottom lines-this session will best prepare participants for what lies ahead.

Description: Managing capital development projects within the traditional healthcare setting is challenging. With the advent of new technology, expanding systems and changes in regulations, this process grows in complexity. The administrative journals and conferences address many of the "award winning projects" without the emphasis placed on process. This webinar will address the early start-up aspects of project development and define the steps one would need to follow to achieve a successful capital improvement project. The speakers will combine the knowledge of AAMA administrators with the experience of hospital planners and architects. Each will address the steps they took on a project that was completed on time, on budget and with successful outcomes. Other factors that will be combined with this discussion will include; project development during austere economic periods, preparing project budgets as well as features of master planning, functional programming, design and construction. The audience will learn the most pressing "do's and don'ts" with the opportunity to dialogue on key project issues.

Who Should Attend: Healthcare Administrators, Health Facility Architects, Facility Planners, Governing Boards, City Planners, Builders and suppliers.

Learning Objectives:
1. Content area: From An AAMA Project Administration Perspective, The Emphasis Is On People, Process and Products not frequently taught in College:
    a.
To educate administrators on the "success factors" for project development
    b. To define the "most frequent" steps one might anticipate with a few anomalies along the way
    c. To inform and advise from the "application standpoint…CEO + Planner + Architect + Builder, for example

2. Content area: The Value of Facility Master Planning and Functional Programming is Key to Effective Results in Building Developments:
    a.
To clearly recognize the proper sequence of events leading up to actions….what, where, when, how big and how much
    b. To link strategic planning with facility planning and determine "real needs" not just "wants and wishes"
    c. To determine should we "build, renovate, or run away"…what is the best course of action

3. Content area: The Risk, Reward and Liability Factors should be determined "before the fact" and pro-actively managed. Indoor Air Quality, Infection Control and Evidence Based Design (EBD) Processes will be addressed:
    a.
To properly prepare for TJC surveys and to understand the "statement of conditions"
    b. To avoid major liability situations due to poor work and care place environments
    c. To define the best patient and family-friendly environments and ascertain the best process…not just best design
