Description:
It is sad to account for the human suffering during the aftermath of a violent event. It is tragic when warning signs were unnoticed or ignored and opportunities missed to stop the escalation of violence. The process approach to employee violence helps to identify, understand and address troubling behaviors before they become violent ones. It defines violence not as senseless, random and sudden but, rather the final product of a long series of highly visible, purposeful, interdependent and progressively dangerous events. It encourages a comprehensive corporate strategy that includes crisis management planning, pre-crisis intervention and prevention. Inappropriate behaviors identified and addressed early are largely correctable and minimally volatile. Those allowed to build to an explosive level are both risky and difficult to defuse.
